Please click on a question to find the answer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Do I need a prescription from my doctor to get physical therapy? In the state of Wisconsin, a physical therapist is licensed to work under what is called direct access. This means that under most circumstances you can see a physical therapist without a doctor's prescription. Our evaluation may reveal that you should see a physician. We will advise you if this is so. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Will my insurance pay for physical therapy? Virtually every health insurance covers physical therapy services. However, the amount of coverage varies from policy to policy. It is best to call your insurance company to find out about your specific physical therapy benefit. Insurance typically pays 50-100% of charges after your deductible is met. You are responsible for the difference. Kerk Physical Therapy Specialists at Body Mechanics is an "in-network" provider for the following insurance companies:

It is always a good idea to know your insurance coverage so we welcome patients to contact their insurance company with any questions regarding their policy. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. How long, and how often is a typical appointment? Initial evaluations typically take one hour. Follow-up appointments generally last between 30 and 60 minutes. We see most patients from 1-3 times per week. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. What does a typical physical therapy treatment session include? Treatment in physical therapy varies depending on the problem or injury you are being treated for. A typical treatment session may include the use of manual therapy techniques where the therapist uses his or her hands to guide your movements or to loosen up tight muscles and joints. The manual techniques that we specialize in are extremely safe. There are no high velocity "cracks", "pops", or quick "twists" utilized in other forms of "adjustments." Stretching, movement re-education, therapeutic exercise, and patient education are also key components of a physical therapy treatment session. Modalities including ultrasound, iontophoresis, phonophoresis, traction, ice, and electrical stimulation may also be used as appropriate. Our emphasis is getting you moving correctly and teaching you how to keep yourself healthy for the future. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.
