Brent Bode, physical therapist at the downtown Milwaukee bodymechanics location will be traveling to Rwanda May 17th-27th to provide physical therapy to the athletes at Kefa (kay-fuh) Soccer Academy. Since 2009, Kefa has used soccer as a tool to develop community for at-risk youth who have been orphaned, impoverished, living on the streets, have dropped out of school, or are just growing up in a tough place. Their goal is to "help the kids feel welcomed, no longer alone, to help them re-enter education both formally and informally, learn finance and business skills, be reconciled to their own families, to know God and change themselves and their communities."
Brent will be part of a team of other PT's and his brother Steve, a college soccer coach. His days will be spent working on injury prevention strategies with the coaching staff in the mornings and performing injury screens in the afternoon on the athletes to identify potential weaknesses that may lead to future injury if left unaddressed. In Rwanda, if you tear your ACL, there are no surgical options to get back to sport so injury prevention is critical work.
Please learn more about the Kefa organization at their website http://kefaproject.org/ If you like what you see, please team with us to support their work at this special link: http://kefaproject.org/bode. Body Mechanics will match up to $1000 of the total donations to support the work of Kefa!
